A wreath-laying ceremony Thursday afternoon at Arlington National Cemetery kicked off the official inaugural events for President-elect Donald Trump. Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence presented the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns in honor of the nation’s fallen soldiers. The resting place for 400,000 military heroes, President Kennedy and others buried there since the 1860s. More than 4 million people visit the cemetery annually. Burial in Arlington is generally limited to active, retired and former members of the armed forces, Medal of Honor recipients, high-ranking federal government officials and their dependents. The Tomb of the Unknowns is a monument dedicated to American service members who have died without their remains being identified.
